Andy Green’s Journey at OMEX
Andy Green joined OMEX in 1988 as an analyst, working in our early laboratory at a time when product development was driven by hands-on experimentation, simple equipment, and a lot of curiosity.
Early laboratory work, curiosity, and the beginnings of innovation
Reflecting on those early days, Andy recalls:
“There was little or no development work to start with. The Didin Fluid project happened to occur a few weeks after I had received a sample of a new and rather expensive gelling agent which was water soluble, just what was needed for the Didin Fluid. Hands-on experiments produced a final mix which was a big success, exporting lorry loads to Germany, and led to trying to formulate products as water-soluble suspensions. One of the next products formulated was CalMax.”
A Key Early Milestone
Andy played a key role in developing OMEX’s first suspension foliar fertiliser, Didin Fluid, in conjunction with Andy Eccles – an early milestone that helped shape the direction of OMEX’s product innovation.

From Early Labs to Modern Innovation
Since then, both Andy’s journey and OMEX have evolved significantly. From early lab setups to modern development facilities and advanced equipment, the tools may have changed, but the commitment to innovation has not.
3,000+ Formulations and a Career of Impact
Over the course of his career, Andy has formulated more than 3,000 products – not all of which reached the market, but all contributing to OMEX’s development. As Andy explains:
“Not bad for someone who knew next to nothing about fertilisers when he joined OMEX. Thanks to Colin Sheppardson for employing me. I never would have guessed I would have such an interesting and fulfilling career.”
Still Part of the OMEX Story
38 years on, and although now semi-retired, Andy is still very much part of the OMEX team. His experience, insight, and passion for the industry continue to support and inspire those around him.
